The Catholic Youth Swim League (CYSL) was founded in 1975 and is an independent, volunteer based, organization which manages a youth swim league for Catholic parishes in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. The CYSL’s goal is provide a competitive swim league for parishes which fosters the proper instruction of swim technique, in an environment that promotes Catholic values. There are 17 teams competing in the league in two conferences. The swim season runs from October through February. Teams typically practice 2 days per week, with 7 dual meets and a Championship meet at the end of the season. At the meets there are events for all four strokes (butterfly, breast, backstroke, and freestyle). Children from 4-14 years old, that are registered parishioners, are eligible to participate. Meet events are grouped by age (8U, 10U, 12U, 15U). Most teams are managed through their parish as a parish group independent of their CYO program. All coaches and assistants are required to receive clearances and have safe environment training through their parish.
